The Prediction

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

AN ANCIENT KING once dreamed that all his teeth had fallen out.

He was naturally concerned about his dream, so the next morning he sent for a soothsayer to interpret his dream for him.

The soothsayer listened to the king’s dream, pondered it for a moment, and then delivered this pronouncement:

“Your Highness, the dream means that all your relatives will die and you will be left alone.”

The king was furious at the soothsayer’s interpretation, and he demanded the soothsayer remove himself from the palace at once.

Then the king called for a second soothsayer.

This soothsayer listened to the king’s dream, pondered for a moment, and then proclaimed:

“Rejoice, O King! The dream means that you will live many more years.
In fact, you will outlive all your relatives! LONG LIVE THE KING!”

This interpretation so pleased the king that he gave the interpreter a large purse of gold.

Essentially, the two soothsayers made the same prediction. But there
was a big difference in HOW they delivered the message, wouldn’t you
agree? As a result, there was a big difference in how the message was
received.

The moral of the story is very clear: It’s not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it that counts!

Letting Go

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

One evening a man was out walking, but he had become so absorbed is his own thoughts
that, without realizing, had wandered way off course and was now completely lost.
It was getting late and cold and would soon be dark. An hour or so passed and it was
now pitch-black. He began to feel afraid and his steps became quicker and unsteady.

Suddenly, something underneath him gave way and he fell. He tumbled down and down and
just as he way about to fall over a ledge he managed to grab onto a branch. But, he
was now just hanging there. No way to climb back up and nothing but darkness below him.

"Help! Somebody!! Please…Help me!" he cried out. …But no one came; it was a desolate place.
He was terrified. His hands were freezing cold and he was losing his grip on the branch.

There was no one to help!!

In sheer desperation this man, who was an atheist, call out to God, "Please…please…if you’re
there…God…please help me, save me and I will believe in you always!!" Suddenly, and to his
amazement, a voice echoed all around him, "Trust Me….Let Go…. I’ve Got You… Trust In Me."

The man looked around him and below him and thought for a moment, then he mumbled to himself,
"Let go? Trust? You must think I’m mad?? No way!"

This story doesn’t always end like this but I think that many people find themselves
in this man’s situation. Maybe not necessarily hanging from a branch in the middle of no
where, but never the less in a desperate situation where all their deepest instincts are
telling them just to let go, to surrender themselves to a higher, deeper power or energy
of some kind, to drop… into the unknown, with just trust. But they are so full of doubt
and fear that they just cling on instead.

The alternate ending to this story is that the desperate man, sensing he has little choice,
decides to let go. He falls into the void below, but moments later he finds himself on solid
ground. It had been so dark that he could never have known that the ground was no more than about
20ft below. He was safe and unharmed.  What’s more, it turns out that the ground he has landed on
is a pathway; the pathway he had been searching for all along - the route home!

To me, this whole story is a lovely metaphor for having the courage to trust what is deepest within
us, no matter what, to have the nerve to surrender to ourselves.

We will get a beautiful surprise. The dark void is actually the source of all life. The ‘ground’ below
is actually the "Ground of Being", which is another way of saying God, which is another way of saying our
truest, realest Nature. This is most definitely the way home!

33078410460737m  I joined the Boys’ Brigade three years ago. It was actually my brother who pestered me to join some uniform body in the school, but I did not care about what he said at all. I used to stay at home doing nothing useful other than studying. When I was in form one, I attended a recruitment drive, but I was not interested at all. In form two, some of my friends started pushing me to join BB. At last, I joined the elite brotherhood of First Klang. It was actually tough for me in the beginning and I thought that BB is just another uniform body which I have to go for a month and then quit. However, I realised that BB offers much more than the other uniform bodies. I went through all the suffering part and that was when most of my friends started quitting BB.

Then as the days went by, I was still thinking that BB was a better uniform body, but it was only a few months later that I realised that BB was more than an uniform body. The bonding we have with each others here is something you cannot achieve anywhere else. We went through all the tough part such as drill and physical training together and that made our bonds stronger. I used to be a very lazy boy, couch potato with no outdoor activities. BB was fully responsible to change me to a person as you all see today. All the physical exertion during drill and physical training thought me things which I can’t learn from any one else. Everything which I went through in BB made me better. The next year, I went for the Basic NCO training school and I saw many other companies there. My exposure to the other companies made me even more proud and spirited to be a BB member. The exposure to the other companies really gave me an impact which I can’t explain. Then I started involving myself more in everything, not like the person I was those days.

Somehow, the leadership and social skills seeped into me through the BNTS and my experiences in the company. Pesta was another live impacting event. The suffering that I went through during the drill training made me even tougher mentally and physically. I would say that Pesta 2006 was a real test for our company to show that we are still here. Seeing the whole Boys’ Brigade in Malaysia in Pesta showed me more about BB and that was the proudest moment in my life to be a First Klang member.

The only thing that still makes me feel frustrated is the behaviour of my friends who quit BB just because of drill. The questions of ex-members asking whether I am still in BB also makes me feel very angry. The only thing that I can do is feeling sorry for them for not being a true strong member of BB. I would say that teamwork is something which will bring us to greater heights. Actually the word teamwork here in First Klang brings more meaning to me as most of us are best friends and we do everything together other than the company activities. It is also part of teamwork, understanding your teammates. Finally, I would like to thank my friends who introduced me to BB. I really don’t know how I would be if I was not a BB member. I really praise God for making me a true BB member. My thanks and praises also goes to the officers for helping us in everything we undertake. I hope that BB will continue to grow and our company will be more recognized in our school for who we are.

INTERSQUAD BASKETBALL CHALLENGE

It is on the Saturday, 2nd of September 2006. The 1st Klang have organised intersquad basketball between the 1st Klang members, squad 1, squad 2, squad 3 and squad 4. Everything was prepared well even the selling of drinks but there was a slight delay on the time. It supposes to start at 4.05pm and end at 6.03pm but end a bit late.

Everyone was fine and the game started. Many people were supporting for their respective squad and some even for others. There was shouting and cheering everywhere. All of them were excited and hoping that their squad will win every match but there must be a winner and loser too!

The entire match was challenging and all of them played well. Everyone is having great fun even officers. The last match was the most challenging part because it will determine the winner of the game. In the end squad 1 manage to win the match as champions and followed by squad 3, squad 2 and squad 4.

After all of the match, everybody starts to pack their stuff, buying some drinks and even sitting and resting on the chair. Even thought everyone is tired but they are happy cheering for their squad. That is the spirit in the 1st Klang members and congratulations to the winner! Keep up the good work!
